EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS
The Egg Harbor Township Board of Recreation Commissioners is
composed of seven members and two alternates appointed by the Township
Committee. The Board is responsible for setting policy that affects Parks
and Recreation for the residents of Egg Harbor Township. The Egg Harbor Township Parks and Recreation Department is affiliated with the following organizations:
"To plan, promote, organize and administer comprehensive
recreational services for the residents of Egg Harbor Township." BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS
Office Hours: 9:00 am to 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - additional hours during registration periods. Building Hours: 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance
The Township of Egg Harbor complies with the American with Disabilities
Act. The Township Committee established a review committee to develop a
report with the purpose to eliminate discrimination against individuals
with disabilities. The ADA Task Force has formulated a transition plan
which includes facility/program accessibility, employee training and ongoing
instruction. If you need assistance to participate in any recreation program please
contact our office at 926-4028. We will do our best to accommodate you. RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS REGISTRATION INFORAMATION The Recreation Department advertises through local papers and seasonally
four times a year in the CURRENT of Egg Harbor Township. Under normal
conditions, registration is held the following months of the year:
All recreation programs are open to Egg Harbor Township residents on
a first-come first serve basis. Registration is held at the Recreation
Office in the Municipal Building. Registration is in-person only, unless
so noted. Please note that some programs have AQUATIC PROGRAM SWIMMING LESSONS The following is offered in our swimming instructional program for participants:
Classes are held at the Egg Harbor Township High School pool and are
offered during the Spring and Summer sessions only. Our summer program will also have some of the following specialty classes:
All classes are held at the Egg Harbor Township High School pool. LIFE GUARDING CLASSES American Red Cross LIFE GUARDING classes are held periodically during
the year. For the next scheduled class please contact the Recreation Department. WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR CLASS American Red Cross Water Safety classes are held in the Spring of each
year. For additional information please contact the Recreation Department
in February. AQUA FITNESS This program consists of aerobic workouts in the water. No swimming
ability required. The instructor is certified by the United States Water
Fitness Association. The program is held during the Spring, Summer, Fall
and Winter sessions. OPEN RECREATIONAL SWIMMING This program is open to Egg Harbor Township residents only and is held at the Egg Harbor Township High School pool. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday night - Family/Teen Night - 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Children 7th through 12th grades may attend without adult supervision.
All others must have a parent/guardian accompany them in the pool area.
Adults welcome. Thursday night - Family Night - 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. All
participants must be accompanied in the pool area by a parent/guardian.
ARTS AND CRAFTS A great way to learn different art techniques and crafts
for children three (3) years old and up. Program is held at the John Couchoud
Community Center on Saturday mornings during the Fall, Winter and Spring. CAP AND SHIRT BASEBALL This program is an instructional program held during the summer (July and August) for participants six (6) through eleven (11) years old. The program is held at Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Registration is held during the summer session.
COMMUNITY FITNESS PROGRAM Bicycling/Jogging/Walking/Swimming The Recreation Department in an effort to reward a fit lifestyle encourages
the citizens of Egg Harbor Township to join one or more of these programs.
T-shirts will be awarded to participants in recognition of various distance
accomplishments. For complete details call the Recreation Department. DANCE Dance instruction classes are available to participants five (5) years
old and up in Introduction to Dance classes. The classes are held at the
John Couchoud Community Center on Tuesday evenings for eight (8) to ten
(10) weeks, with a presentation being held in the Spring. This program
is available Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall. DAY TRIPS The following one day outings are periodically scheduled. The bus leaves and returns to the Municipal Building. The trips are run in cooperation with the Somers Point Community Education and Recreation Department. Click here for latest schedule.
FIRST AID AND CPR The Recreation Department offers American Red Cross Community First
Aid and Safety and rectification in CPR for the Professional each session.
All classes are held at the Municipal. Building. FLAG FOOTBALL An instructional program to provide the participants with the fundamentals
of the game of football (No Contact). This program is open to participants
six (6) to twelve (12) years old. Registration is held beginning in June
and ending in August. If space is available we will take late registrations
during our Fall session. The program runs September through November. The
program is held on Saturdays at Veterans Memorial Park. GET HOOKED ON FISHING NOT ON DRUGS This program provides children the opportunity to learn how to fish or for the more experienced angler the opportunity to show off their fishing skills. We fish off a local fishing charter boat. The program is open to participants ages seven (7) to 17 years old. The program is cosponsored by the Egg Harbor Township Municipal Alliance. Come on out and join "Captain Ed" and his fishing' buddies to land the "BIG ONE". The program has trips scheduled in the Spring, Summer and Fail.
JUNIOR WRESTLING PROGRAM Our Junior Wrestling program is open to participants five (5) to 14
years old. Registration is held in late October and early November. Matches
and practices are held at the Egg Harbor Township High School or Middle
School. The team participates in the South Jersey Wrestling Association
and competes with area teams and travels to various tournaments. Parents
are encouraged to participate in the Junior Wrestling Booster Club. The
Booster Club meets on the second Monday of each month at the High School.
They sponsor an annual tournament each January. KARATE Karate instruction classes are available to participants six (6) year
olds and up, as well as adults. The program is held Winter, Spring, Summer
and Fall. Advanced classes are available for participants wanting to receive
training to earn their white, yellow, orange, green, light blue, brown,
purple, red, red with stripe, dark blue, black and degrees in black belts.
Classes are held at the John Couchoud Community Center. MORNING MADNESS This program features jugglers, clowns, puppet shows and magicians.
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy. The program is held at Veterans Memorial
Park (next to the library) (Swift School Auditorium in case of rain) during
the summer months. No registration required for this program. NATIONAL YOUTH SPORTS COACHES ASSOCIATION COACHING CERTIFICATION
CLINICS Egg Harbor Township is a chapter of the N.Y.S.C.A. which enables the
personnel of the Recreation Department to hold Youth Sports Coaching Clinics,
via video tapes, in order to certify coaches. The following programs are
available: Football, Baseball, Softball, Street Hockey Ice Hockey, Wrestling
Basketball, Soccer, Cheerleading and Drill Team. Other sports are available upon request. For additional information
on this program and a schedule of the upcoming clinics, please contact
the Recreation Department. Youth Sports Coaches Responsibilities and Liabilities
booklet is available at the Recreation Office in the Municipal Building. PEE WEE BASKETBALL An instructional program to provide participants Kindergarten through
2nd Grade with the fundamentals of the sport of basketball. The program
is held at the Davenport School gym during the Winter recreational session
on Saturday mornings. RECREATIONAL SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES PROGRAM This program is for participants Kindergarten through fourth grade. The program is held during the months of July and August, Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 2:30 p.m. The participants participate in sport programs, art-n-craft activities, games, swimming lessons and trips to various parks. The program is held at one of the area schools. "Fridays" are known as "Fun Friday" because we take trips to area attractions (not included in price for program). Registration for this program begins in our Spring session. SATURDAY MORNING MATINEE This program is held on various Saturdays during the Fall and Winter.
The Recreation Department will spotlight a Puppet Company or Magician for
a Saturday Matinee at the Egg Harbor Township Middle School. No registration
required. SPECIAL TOURNAMENT OF FISHING This program provides the opportunity for our residents who are physically
and/or mentally challenged to go fishing. We spend the afternoon fishing
on board a local fishing charter boat. An awards ceremony and banquet follow
the day of fishing. The program is cosponsored by AkPharma, Inc. and is
held in the Summer. There is no fee for this program. TENNIS Tennis instruction classes are available to participants eight (8) years
old and up, as well as adults. Classes are held at the Tennis Courts located
at Veterans Memorial Park during the Spring, Summer and Fall session. TUBING TRIP The Recreation Department offers a four (4) hour float down the Wading
River, during the summer, for participants ten (10) years old and up. RECREATIONAL SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS E.H.T. BABE RUTH ASSOCIATION This baseball program is open to boys ages 12 to 15 years old. Games
and practices are held at Veterans Memorial Park and Childs-Kirk Memorial
Park. Registration is held in March. All-Star teams are selected for tournament
play. E.H.T. BICYCLE MOTO-CROSS ASSOCIATION, INC. B.M.X. racing is a sport for participants four (4) years old through
adults. The B.M.X. races are held on specially designed tracks featuring
obstacles such as jumps, drop-offs and banked turns. The track and races
are sanctioned by the National Bicycle League. Registration is held in
April, with beginners day and opening day. The racing season runs through
November of each year. E.H.T GIRLS' BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION This program is open to girls in third through eighth grade. Registration
is held in late October, early November at the Intermediate school. Games
and practices are held at the Intermediate School Gym. All-star teams are
available that compete against other communities. Try-outs for these teams
are announced. E.H.T. PLEASANT WOODS SPORTS ASSOCIATION, INC. Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 8:00
p.m.. The meetings are held in the field house located at Childs-Kirk
Memorial Park located on Idelwood Avenue in the Cardiff section of the
Township. The field house phone number is (609) 646-7911. SPONSORED SPORTS Baseball This program is sanctioned by Little League, Inc.. It is open to boys
six (6) to twelve (12) years of age. Registration is held in early March
of each year. All-Star teams are selected at the end of the season. Games
and practices are held at the Childs-Kirk Memorial Park. Softball This program is sanctioned by Little League, Inc.. It is open to girls
eight to twelve (12) years of age. All-Star teams are selected at the end
of the season. Registration is held in early March of each year. Games
and practices are played at the Childs-Kirk Memorial Park. Soccer This program is open to participants in third (3rd) through eighth (8th)
grades and under 15 years of age as of September 1. Registration is held
in early June and in late July or early August of each year. All-Star teams
are selected for tournament play. Games and practices are held at the Childs-Kirk
Memorial Park Traveling teams are offered during the year. E.H.T. STREET HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Street Hockey is open to children four (4) to fifteen (15) years of
age. Registration is held in late August or early September for the four
to six (4-6) year old levels. Their season runs September through November.
The upper levels have registration in late October to early November. Their
season runs November through March. Games and practices are held at the
Veterans Memorial Park. Traveling All-Star teams are developed at the end
of the season to participate in tournaments sanctioned by the National
Dek-Hockey Institute. E.H.T. YOUTH ORGANIZATION, INC . Meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 8:00
p.m.. The meetings are held in the field house located at Veterans Memorial
Park, off of Ocean Heights Avenue. The field house phone number is (609)
927-2189 SPONSORED SPORTS Baseball This program is sanctioned by Babe Ruth, Inc., and is open to boys seven
(7) years to twelve (12) years of age and sixteen (16) years to nineteen
(19) years of age. Registration is held in early March of each year at
the field house located at Veterans Memorial Park. All-Star teams are developed
at the end of the regular season. Games and practices are held at Veterans
Memorial Park. Boys Basketball This program is open to boys in third (3rd) through eighth (8th) grades.
Traveling team try-outs for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders are also available.
Try-outs for these teams are announced. Registration is held in late October
or early November of each year. Games and practices are held at the Davenport
School and the Middle School. Cheerleading This program is open to participants third (3rd) through eighth (8th)
grades. Teams compete in the Atlantic County Junior Cheerleading Association.
Registration is held in February of each year at the field house located
at Veterans Memorial Park. Drill Team This program is open to participants third (3rd) through eighth (8th)
grades. The team, in addition to participating at the Junior Football games,
also attends several parades and demonstrations. Registration is held after
Cheerleading tryouts are completed. Football Teams participate in the Atlantic County Junior football league. Registration is held in June and August of each year. The following are the age requirements:
Practices are held at Veterans Memorial Park. Game locations vary. Softball This program is sanctioned by Babe Ruth Inc. And is open to girls seven
(7) to nineteen years of age. Registration is held in early March of each
year at the filed house located at Veterans Memorial Park. Games and practices
are held at veterans Memorial park. All Star teams are developed at the
end of the season. T-Ball This program is open to participants five and six (5-6) years of age as of August 1. This program is held at Veterans Memorial Park. Registration is held in early March of each year at the field house located at Veterans Memorial Park. COMMUNITY SPONSORED PROGRAMS ADULT EVENING SCHOOL - E.H.T HIGH SCHOOL The Adult Evening School is sponsored by the E.H.T. Board of Education.
The programs run during the Spring and Fall. A myriad of activities are
offered to adults from small engine repair to volleyball to upholstery
to many other exciting programs. Registration for the Fall program is in
September and the Spring program registers in February. Brochures are mailed
to Township residents by the Board of Education. For additional information
contact the Adult Evening School hotline at 653-9025. ATLANTIC COUNTY LIBRARY - E.H.T. BRANCH The EHT branch offers a variety of activities from toddler storytime
to various crafts among other activities. For additional information call
927-8664 or (TDD) 926-8629. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday
10:00 a.m. to 8:00p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. ATLANTIC RIDING CENTER FOR THE HANDICAP This is a program of therapeutic horseback riding for the disabled.
Children and adults with any type of physical, mental or learning disability
are eligible to participate. Volunteers are always needed. Anyone interested
can call the ARCH Director, Sue Adams, at 926-2233. BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA The Boy Scouts of America in Egg Harbor Township have meetings at different
times throughout the week all year round at various locations. The Boy
Scouts of America provides help to instill values in young people and prepare
them to make ethical choices to achieve their full potential. A full range
of camping, indoors and outdoor high adventure and career orientation programs
are available for boys in the first through twelfth grades and girls in
high school. Support is provided through the Atlantic Area Council in Linwood
and Camp Walter E. Edge in Alloway, NJ. For additional information call
645-8311. CYGNUS CREATIVE ARTS CENTRE The Centre is a comprehensive arts facility offering programs for all
ages and levels of experience in Dance, Painting, Sculpture, Voice, Music
and Drama. Registration is held in January, March, June and August of each
year. For additional information call 272-1199. FIRE FIGHTING - EXPLORING Fire Explorer Post 15 is sponsored by the Egg Harbor Township Volunteer
Fire Department and has been in existence since 1987. It is a career interest
explorer post in the field of fire fighting and its purpose is to explore
the techniques of fire prevention and suppression. The post meets every
Thursday night at one of the Township fife stations to conduct business
and for two nights every month to drill on fire fighting skills. The post
is open to any young adult 14 to 21 years of age that has an interest in
fire fighting. If you would like additional information call the Post Chief
at 927-2870. GIRL SCOUTS OF THE USA Holly Shores Girl Scout Council gives girls from all segments of American
life a chance to develop their potential, to make friends and to become
a vital part of their community. Through activities that stimulate self-discovery
they are introduced to the excitement in the worlds of science, the arts,
the out-of-doors and people in five age level adaptations. Daisy, age 5,
Kindergarten; Brownie, Ages 6-8 years old, Grades 1 to 3; Junior, Ages
9-11 years old, Grades 4 to 65; Cadet, Ages 12-14, grades 7 to 9;
Senior, ages 15 to 17 years old, grades 10 to 12. If you would like to
be a Girl Scout or an adult volunteer in Egg Harbor Township contact the
Holy Shores Council at 1-800-582-7692. POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE (P.A.L.) OF EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP The P.A.L. building is located on Tilton Road between the Cardiff Circle
and the NAFEC Circle in the Cardiff section of Egg Harbor Township. Facility
supports recreational facilities as well as a small meeting area. The E.H.T.
P.A.L. offers programs in Archery, Basketball, Cooking, Modem Dance, D.A.R.E.,
Junior Cadets, Parade Marching Unit, Golf, Youth S.C.U.B.A. Diving, Wilderness
Exploration, Volleyball, Adult Aerobics and Adult Self-Defense. In addition,
special events include the Annual Fair for All, Big Shot Competition, Holiday
Food Drive and the Volleyball Challenge. The goal of the organization is
to have Township Police Officers met kids on the playing courts instead
of the Juvenile Courts. Programs are available to youths between the ages
of five (and eighteen (18). Anyone interested in becoming a member of P.A.L.
or have any questions please call 645-8413. SEAHAWK SWIMMERS OF EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP The Egg Harbor Township SeaHawks is a competitive swim team open to
all residents between the ages of six (6) to eighteen (18). This program
is not swim lessons. They meet five (5) nights a week from 5:15 p.m.
to 7:15 p.m. from October to March. Swim meets are scheduled for
Saturdays and/or Sundays during December, January and February. Registration
is held in September. SPECIAL EVENTS AND ITEMS OF INTEREST DISCOUNT THEME PARK TICKETS The Parks and Recreation Department, through the New Jersey Recreation

DISCOUNT SKI LIFT TICKETS The Parks and Recreation Department, through the New Jersey Recreation
and Parks and Association, offers discount tickets to the following ski
resorts during the winter months:
NFL GATORADE PUNT, PASS AND KICK COMPETITION This event is held on a Saturday in October and is open to participants
ages eight (8) to fifteen (15). Participants compete in age brackets in
punting, passing and kicking skills. The top scorer in each age bracket
will move on to a Regional and then possibly Team Championships held in
various locations. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST "Scenes of Egg Harbor Township" This annual
event is held in the Spring of each year with the deadline for submission
in May. Information is printed in the "Current of Egg Harbor Township"
with our Spring registration information. SNOWMAN AND SNOW SCULPTURE CONTEST Let It Snow! Whether it be a solo venture, team effort or a family affair,
have some fun during the winter and enter this annual contest. To enter
you send a photograph of you (family) standing next to your snowman/snow
sculpture, which was built in Egg Harbor Township between December and
March to the Egg Harbor Township Department of Parks and Recreation, 3515
Bargaintown Road, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234. Each entry must have the
following information written on or affixed to the back of each photograph:
name, address, phone number, age group, category entered and date built. VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY Each year in the fall, the Township Governing Body invites all Township
Volunteers and their families from the Fire Departments, Rescue Squad,
Auxiliaries, Civic Boards, Sport Organizations, etc., to an afternoon of
food, fund and frolic. It is the Township's way to show the volunteers
how appreciated they are. The event is sponsored by the area restaurants
