The
Patcong Valley
Society of MODEL RAILROADERS
Patcong Valley Model RR Club has relocated from EHT to Richland, NJ.
Richland is on Route 40 about 10 miles west of Mays Landing.

WELCOME to the online version of our model railroad. The name of
our R.R. came from our original location in the 1950's that was located
inside a chicken coup on Patcong Ave. in Linwood. We then moved to the
3rd floor of a drug store on 9th St. in Ocean City. We started this railroad
in 1978. There are currently 27 members and it takes between 12-16 of us
to operate the layout smoothly. Most trains are member owned and up to
10 can be running at once. The buildings you will see on the layout are
mostly scratch built.
Our OPEN HOUSE show normally attracts between 500-1000 visitors per
weekend. The layout represents a bridge route between Pittston (Scranton)
PA. and Kingston in south eastern NY. Our trains cover 8 scale miles (480
feet) each time around the railroad.
Here are some of the points of interest to look for. Signs hanging from
the ceiling show names of locations.
PITTSTON PA. is the first scene you will view. This is the main yard
and engine terminal on the western end of the railroad.
LOGGING OPERATIONS high on the mountain supply logs to the sawmill
in the valley.
HORSESHOE CURVE is a famous land mark on the Pennsylvania Railroad
near Altoona Pa.
COAL MINE AREA represents a deep-shaft coal mine and mine town.
NATALEVILLE is a mountain community including a US Navy underground
ammunition storage bunker.
NARROWSBURG is a medium size industrial town. Study the many highly
detailed mini-scenes. The 4 track Neversink yard in the valley is our connection
with the New York Ontario & Western railroad and part of the branch
line.
MILLRIFT BRIDGE crosses the Deleware river into New York state.
Step down into the next room. We completely rebuilt this New York part
of our railroad in 1994.
MIDDLETOWN NY. is a small town of our branch line. This is the main
terminal of our NARROW GAUGE branch. This narrow gauge branch has the rails
spaced 3' between the rails instead of the standard 4' 8 1/2". Narrow
gauge railroads were used where it was too difficult or expensive to build
the larger standard gauge track.
SUICIDE CANYON BRIDGE leads us around the mountain.
GOSHEN MILL represents a small water powered grist mill.
BICKERSTAFF YARD in Maybrook NY was named after a deceased member
and is the freight yard and engine terminal for the east end of the railroad.
KINGSTON AREA is the east end of the railroad where the small yard
behind the buildings connects our railroad with the New York Central railroad.
HIGH POINT along the back wall is a small town on the branch line
from Middletown. The power plant receives coal from our coal mine.
